Saginaw Alumnae Chapter Celebrates MLK Day with Service

January 15, 2024 - In celebrating and commemorating this year’s MLK Day with meaningful service, Saginaw Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has once again demonstrated the profound impact collective action and service can have on communities.

On the occasion of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, SAC members came together to honor the legacy of Dr. King through acts of service and outreach in the Saginaw community. Saginaw Deltas dedicated the day to rendering invaluable service to Saginaw residents, embodying the spirit of unity and compassion that Dr. King epitomized.

Sorors engaged in a range of impactful activities aimed at uplifting the community. The day commenced with sorors assisting Saginaw Eastside Soup Kitchen staff, who ensured everyone had a warm, satisfying meal to brighten their day.  SAC members also worked to organize and distribute donated clothing and essential items, fostering a sense of dignity and care among those in need.

What set this day of service apart was the personal touch the Deltas brought to every interaction. Sorors took the time to engage with staff and individuals seeking assistance, offering words of encouragement and support. Sorors also went above and beyond to assist residents on-site, helping them select clothing donations that resonated with their personal needs.

Dr. King's legacy is one of selfless service, and DST is deeply committed to upholding King’s legacy through the Sorority’s mission of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.

“Delta’s commitment to uplifting and empowering others serves as an inspiring example of the enduring legacy of Dr. King and our Sorority's unwavering dedication to making a difference,” said SAC President Lisa Ingram.

With a rich history spanning 111 years, the recent celebration of DST’s Founders Day on January 13 was a momentous occasion. It highlighted the enduring strength, resilience, and impact of the Sorority as its members work to empower communities and champion the values of unity — through service.
